TIP: Works better when there isn't much blue/cyan in the photo.

With the original size, duplicate the original on screen 80% unless it's very very dark.
And sharpen that screened base.
Crop/Resize 100x100.

A new selective coloring layer.
REDS: -100, 15, 20, 0.
YELLOWS: 100, 0, 100, 0.
NEUTRALS: 11, 8, 10, 0.
BLACKS: 0, 0, 0, 5.

A new selective coloring layer.
REDS: -100, 100, 100, 100.
YELLOWS: 100, -100, -100, 0.
CYANS: 100, -100, -100, 100.
WHITES: 0, 0, 0, -32.
NEUTRALS: [0-30], -10, -10, 5.

And you're done.

How to make these:

This can be done using PS, and PSP.
I will show both.

Start off with a 100x100 black layer.

PS Tutorial:
Filter>Render>Lens Flare.
Brightness on 68%.
Try placing them close with each other, not to far apart, cause then your circle would be scattered.
Like so:

With your Elliptical Marquee Tool, select a circle that divides each flare in half.
Kind of like:

Right click, stroke on white, size 1, opactiy 80, and location is center.
Now make about three or four more circles over again located around the flares as your pin-points.
Like so:

Now, brightness/contrast.
Brightness: -20.
Contrast: +20.

Filter>Blur>Radial Blur.
Amount: 46.
Method: Spin.
Quality: Best.

Raise Contrast to 35.
Photoshop users can use the idea below for psp users as well. =]

And you're done.

PSP Tutorial.
Now I know this program doesn't have Lens Flare.
At least I think.
But anyway, pretty much...follow above, besides the part of the lens flare, instead you'll use the brush tool and airbrush it onto the black layer.
Brush size is 17 on soft.

And here's what happens with the radial blur:

Good thing about this is the variety of colors with your palette. =]

Remember to experiment. [I love how I say The End, when clearly it's not.]

With the one below I used, cyan, white, and yellow stroke lines:

With this one, I made the strokes scattered along the flares.

And with this one, I did all that was said, except, at the end I selected a section of the circle, and feathered it...then filled that area with black, and smudged the ends into the black.

I'm into this whole space thing, so the more surreal...the better.

Curves.

F8E5E5- Softlight 50%.

Mess around with it.

PS: After merging, I wanted my Sawyer icon a bit more magentaish.
So I made a new Selective coloring layer, and on Reds, set it to 0, 30, 0, 0.

Just for the record Gerard Way is an absolutely great singer. And I love the man for what he's done for me. I'm a huge fan of MCR. Let's get that outta the way. But in all honesty Jared Leto's voice is way more trained than Gerard's. His vocal chords are much more developed and his vibratto is on key, which Gerard is still having a tough time working on. Not trying to start conflict.

But...when I hear someone say that someone is better than someone else at a certain thing when clearly they're not, I've gotta put my two cents in cause I grew up with singing my whole life, and I can tell you now Jared's much more able in singing than Gerard.

Finally some interesting comment, not a "fuck off, asshole" type of comment. Im a guitarist and backup singer in my band. I havent had problems singin in such conditions, ha! i even think the more i warmup my voice, the better it gets. I havent really had a moment where the voice just "drained" out. Still, i thikn that Jared's voice is a little overrated compared to the studio records...

Right, that's your own opinion, and I respect that.
But here's mine:
Gerard has a unique voice in his own, and I love that about him because he changes it up and gives himself variety. But with the records of 30stm Jared has his own too. But there's also no point in trying to change up your vocals in order to be different, than anyone else.

Being originial is an understatement for the mere fact that EVERYONE nowadays copies each other. Inspiration, motivation, etc. Look at bands like Panic at the Disco, Fall out boy, Hawthrone Heights, etc. 98.3% of those male rock vocalists sound the exact same, with the high pitched vocals and the screamo. But Jared and Gerard are completely different, niether of their music in my opinion can fall into the category of 'unoriginal'... because ask yourself what band hasn't just made music video after music video that took place in a dark setting with just the band playing their instruments through-out the estimated 3:40 minutes of the song? MCR, and 30stm.

MCR, for the fact that I'm not Okay takes place in a school, Helena in a church etc.
30 Seconds to Mars for the fact that From Yesterday was directed by Jared himself in China. And The Kill also directed by him in a haunted hotel, each with their own unique plot. Both those bands, hardly speaking of break-ups in 99% of their songs like most rock vocalists.

Yes, they both are very different bands indeed, MCR and 30STM both represent something pretty original material. (would be a little doubtful about MCR but lets continue) U said there is no point in "changing" ur vocals to sound more original or for any other purpose... oh yes there is - like profit. (Btw Jared has a really hard time with vamping)

Let's look at No Doubt.
Gwen Stefani has made it huge changing her vocals.
But it never damaged her singing ability, with the use of your diaphragm, a natural vibratto, etc.

Gerard Way has gotten great at that since bullets, but that's all it is...right there.

SINCE bullets, because that was how his voice was all along, he didn't HAVE to change it around. It's like growing up in England, and moving to America at age 6, you won't have an English accent because you brought up around American's with their own accent at such a young age.

If Jared all of a sudden starts to change his vocal style, giving it a heavier or lighter, whichever, tone...it'll damage his vocal chords because he isn't used to it. He must TRAIN it beforehand for a while, at least three months, you can't just dive right into having a completely different voice at certain times in the song.

Duplicate that layer on Softlight 60%.

Color Balance layer.
Midtones: -30, 15, 21.
Shadows: -39, 7, 35.
Highlights: 32, 15, 29.
I unchecked Preserve Lum. because it looked better, but it might be different for you so uncheck it and give it a try, if not, recheck it.

CURVES.
--You might not need this curves layer, try it if you're not satisfied.
It will make your image brighter.
RGB: I=115, O= 132.
REDS: I=66, O= 113.
GREENS: I=106, O= 142.
BLUES: I=106, O= 147.

PS: You may also add a +6-15 contrast level.

And you're done.

Tutorial;

Original.

Alright, my base was bright enough, so I just sharpened it twice.
Then cropped it, and resized it 100x100.

If you look at my base, you'll see hints of red and orange that pop out.
A bit of cyan there too, now...I always set a goal for myself when making icons.
And my goal here, is to mute the blues/cyans/greens and make the oranges and reds come out.

Duplicate the base on softlight 100%.
Go to 'Variations'.
Click 'Original'.
'More yellows'.
'More reds'.
& 'More magentas'.
Then click OK.

Selective coloring:
Reds: -100, 0, 0, 0
Yellows: -100, -100, -100, +100
Whites: +100, +100, +100, -36
Neutrals: +100, -12, -12, 0

Hue/Saturation/Lightness.
All on Saturation.
Master: +12
Reds: +15
Yellows: -50
Greens, Cyans, Blues: -27

Unsharp Mask Layer:
[If needed.]
36, 5.2, 10.

It's always best to save under .png
I'm hating my text, but fuck it.
And you're done.

Crop your base.
Duplicate your base on screen 100%.
Sharpen that base twice.
Resize your image 100x100.

See how sexy it looks so far? Ahahahaha.

Make a new selective coloring layer.
Reds: +100, 0, 0, +44.
Yellows: +100, -100, -100, 0
Whites: -100, -100, -100, +100
Neutrals: 0, -15, -15, +25

New 'Unsharp Mask' layer.
IF NEEDED!
36, 9.8, 10.
Okay.

And you're done.
PS: You can also try raising the saturation some for even bolder colors.
